“What I like about photojournalism is that you absolutely need to be there for the exact moment, or else, it never happened. What I find a little bit frustrating in the video world is that, like, there isn’t as much of an imperative to be there at that exact moment. Because if you miss something, you can always retell that story in interview and shoot a bunch of unrelated b-roll.”

Ed Ou is a visual journalist at NBC Left Field. He started his career as a teenager, shooting in the Middle East for Reuters and the Associated Press. He then worked for the New York Times covering East Africa and the Middle East during the 2011 Arab Spring uprisings. Ed now makes videos and short documentaries for NBC. He lives in NYC but is originally from Canada.
